Need birth control? Walk-in services available at Naval Health Clinic Pax River

With the Department of Defense putting a renewed focus on women’s health, Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River is reminding beneficiaries of the services available to them here on base. The clinic offers well-woman exams, gynecological exams and pap smears. It recently began a Walk-in Contraceptive Clinic every Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. It’s a one-stop-shop for contraceptive needs, including birth control pills, implants, intrauterine devices (IUDs) and barrier methods. No appointment is required.

New electronic health record coming to Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River

MHS GENESIS, the new electronic health record for the Military Health System, is coming to Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River on March 25. The new system will improve access, safety and quality of care for active duty services members, retirees and their families. However, patients should prepare for some short-term growing pains during implementation, said Capt. Jeremy Hawker, the clinic’s commanding officer. They will include longer wait times initially and a temporary reduction in available appointments – by up to 65% from approximately March 18-May 21. Additional appointments will be added if the transition goes smoothly, as planned.

NHC Pax River to host flu shot clinic for active duty, beneficiaries

Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River will be hosting a Flu SHOTX at the Drill Hall on Friday, Nov. 4, and Monday, Nov. 7, from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for all Active Duty Service Members and beneficiaries ages 18-64. The bivalent COVID-19 booster will also be available.
