Navy industrial hygiene personnel anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and make recommendations to control unacceptable workplace exposures.
The goals of industrial hygiene are:

Available Services
Industrial Hygiene provides the following services at Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River:
- Industrial Hygiene surveys - Worksite evaluations per frequencies specified in the OPNAVIST 5100.23 series for workspaces with Military and or Civil Service employees.
- Exposure assessment - Personal samples (i.e. chemical stressors, noise dosimetry, etc.), general areas samples, site-specific hazard evaluations
- Noise Surveys - Worksite evaluations for equipment and processes in accordance with OPNAVINST 5100.23 series and DoDINST 6055.12 to determine noise levels
- Ventilation surveys - Worksite evaluations as required by OPNAVINST 5100.23 series for lab hood, fume hood, and welding exhaust ventilation, etc.
- Construction design reviews - Review of plans/specifications for new construction/building modifications as request by OPNAVINST 5100.23
